A gorgeous, wordless retelling of the classic fable from Aesop of the same name, The Lion and the Mouse offers a story of kindness and determination. When the lion spares the mouse’s life, the mouse later repays the favor, eating through a poacher’s net in which the lion finds himself trapped.
With expressive watercolor and pencil lines, Pinkney’s brilliant illustrations convey deep emotion without compromising realism in this beautiful rendition of the traditional tale.

Beautiful and remarkable, since the book has no words. An excellent rendering of Aesop's fable. What can I say that others haven't?

The illustrations in this book are beautiful. The wordless book allows you to tell the story.

This is how you tell a ory in a wordless picture book! Also, ten stars for the art!

The cover alone is worth 4 stars - add the rest and 5 stars was easy to get to. Must go place holds on some of Jerry Pinkney's older books that I have not read!

Absolutely gorgeous, and virtually wordless, so children can "read" the pictures and tell the story.

This book catches your eye when you first see it and captures your imagination throughout. It was fun to figure out the story from just the pictures and appreciate all the details and setting that was included. Everything was so intentional in this book. I loved the authors quote at the end, "As a child I was inspired to see the majestic king of the jungle saved by the determination and hard work of a humble rodent; as an adult I've come to appreciate how both animals are equally large at heart: the courageous mouse, and the lion who must rise above his beastly nature to set his small prey free."
