One of the classes that impacted me the most in university was the class I took on Gender and Genocide. Much of the class was spent considering the ethics of remembrance and of representation. My major essay for the class considered this through the figure of Anne Frank—that which endless representation has made of the real human being—by analyzing two episodes of season two of American Horror Story. I’m damn proud of that paper. The course and the work I did individually inform how I teach and how I talk about representation.
I’ve had this adaptation on my to-read list for a long time. I was wary of it. Reading the adaptation notes and Ari Forman’s explicit naming of the ongoing atrocities in Palestine as genocide made me finally read it.
The visual representations of Frank’s words moved me. I feel that Folman took great care in his representation.
Free Palestine.

Gostei desta graphic novel,
mas não me conquistou completamente.

I love how they adapted Anne's diary in the graphic novel format. The illustrations are fantastic.

NO, THIS IS NOT REALLY A RECOMMENDATION IF YOU A RE LOOKING FOR A CHILDREN'S BOOK
I saw some people complaining that they thought it was a children's book and umm, it's not
besides this, kind of obvious thing
the book was really good
its a nice introduction to Anne's Frank story, the art its really nice, and really lures you i the story, its watched in a 1st person's POV 8like it should be) and you can connect with the characters
but its lighter than the of Anne Frank's diary because they could not get all of the things in the og diary ilustrated and all
I recommend it a lot, and its good if you are a starting reader

Bawling by the end, but that's me every time I've read The Diary of Anne Frank. Everyone should read it. (And the people who are banning it need to go sit in a hole and think about what they've done.)
But I should talk about the adaptation here. I was skeptical about the concept, but as a supplement to the original (not, never a replacement) it's beautifully done. Folman and Polonsky are particularly deft at capturing the force of Anne's imagination. Seeing the various ways she imagines herself all grown up ... whelp, here come the tears again.
The only thing I didn't like was Folman's occasional indulgence in anachronistically quoting modern song lyrics. It stuck out and was really jarring -- Otto Frank referencing "You're So Vain" doesn't improve my understanding, sorry. But these were rare missteps.
I'm glad to have another way to experience Anne's voice and her story. I am probably not alone among young Jewish girls (and kids in general) in feeling like she could have been my friend; now that I'm older, I still feel that way. I wish we could have been weird and witty and a little mean together, nearing forty.

I don't think I can give a fair rating to this book... because I haven't read the actual diary to know if much of this stay true to the book.
I can tell you, I found the artwork to be very pretty, and appropriate to the time period of this graphic novel. I can also tell you I found certain aspects of this novel to be... not my favourite.
I do plan to read The Diary of Anne Frank at some point in my life time, and at that point, I may be able to give this graphic depiction of the story a proper rating.
