Fun read with lots of history! Reminded me a bit of Forest Gump where he just kept living and happened to walk into historical moments!

I liked the way the story was told from the “now” or 2005 and the past of Allan’s escapades! While there was a lot of “luck” or happenstance that makes everything all fit together just perfectly it was a fun read. I only gave it 3 stars because I think it got a little long. There were a few times where I was hoping the end would come a little faster. I think the historical background stories were great but a few just got a little long.

This book was so charming! Translated from the original Swedish, this story falls in line with the Swedish writing style.

Told in a dual timeline, it follows the story of Allan Karlsson, a man who runs away from his nursing home just hours before his 100th birthday party, and falls into an unlikely heist and caper of $50 million Kroner. In his run, he puts together an unlikely group of friends.

Now, you would think what are the chances of this happening? Here’s where the dual timeline comes in. It also tells Allan’s 100-year-story, where he embodies this Forrest Gump-like character, finding himself in the middle of some of the biggest events in the 20th century.

Everything about this story is just so compelling, and you find your self rooting for Allan and his group of “bad guys” misfits.
