HOLY SHIT...THAT ENDING. Now I have to wait for who knows how long for the next book?
THis was even better than the first one. We got more worldbuilding, more characters, the tension and yearning between Will and James was ... chef's kiss.
I can't wait to see what happens nexxt after this ending.

pacats writing definitely improved from the first book!
but who in hell decided to make the characters 17???? they don't feel like they're 17, the don't act like they're 17 and let's be honest, the story isn't made for characters that are 17

What do you call it when one is attracted to really clever people or those who confident in what they do? Because, damn. Things I'll let [a:C.S. Pacat|4349837|C.S. Pacat|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1425185129p2/4349837.jpg] do to my body, you can't even imagine.

As for the story, in my humble opinion, this is a masterpiece. The agony of being known, the loneliness, the fear. Pre-destiny and what we do with free will. How we cast our judgement and how it shapes our lives. How we believe that Light is good and Dark is evil and how we can't see the truth even with our eyes open.

Well, shit.

pre-read:
I'm reading other books, but all I can think about is this one

This really felt like the middle book of a trilogy (which I assume it is) in a not-great way…

While the first book mostly followed Will learning about who he is, this one tries to give ALL the backstory to so many characters that at times it felt in the way of the plot progressing. Will is also so useless most of the time, which is frustrating.

That said, *sigh* yes I will definitely read the third book because I am invested, and the world created (mostly the characters of the ancient world and their magic) is pretty compelling.

I loved the relationship between Will and James. I'm not one for spicy scenes, and I loved how much sexual tension they put into scenes with actions PG rated. I found that at the end of each, I wanted more, and was disappointed having to wait for several point of view chapters before returning. All of that only made the twist of the collar only binding James to the Dark Lord, no matter who put it on so much more damming. To have been rejected by everyone he loves, and only to have James left, just to have him magically ensorcelled to love him! Uggh! It twists the knife so perfectly. When I tell you I mourned for Will and all his lost love and relationships. My only regret reading this is that I don't have more friends to share this pain with.

The most painful, tragic love story. Everything hurts.

i very rarely read fantasy books, but i’m so glad i read this series, it was incredible. i love morally grey characters and complicated hero/villain dynamics.
all i gotta say is, will deserves the world, cyprian needs to be throttled and james should get a fckin break after carrying this series on his back. thank you
