I read this book because I'm studying an extract from it for an exam. I don't know what to say other than

Wow.

I didn't see the plot twist coming until it happened, but I cried until I finished reading the book.

I know Morpergo's works are technically meant for children but I've read 3 of his stories so far and cried at every single one of them. Brilliantly told, in a language understandable to everyone, the author makes sure, as more people should, that our history, its significance and hardships are not lost to the young generations.

This book - quite simply made me fall in love with reading. The sparse but enchanting prose never got monotonous after countless re-reads, although heart wrenching this book informed me about the horrors of war while not being so graphic that it frightened me.

Two brothers from a small country town go to fight in World War 1. The older brother is confident, popular, and protective of others, and finds himself in trouble for not following direct orders. This is the story of the younger brother.

It's the kind of book that sticks with you.
Even if you barely remember the story, you will remember the end.
It's a book that just has to be read. It’s haunting and it’s a book that almost makes you wish you never picked it up, it’s so sad. But when you finish it, it becomes a part of you. I read this book once, years ago and I still remember it with clarity.
