Wow this book takes you through time and space and leaves you at the very beginning with a sense of wonder and awe. The characters are so vivid and the scenery to me is somewhat familiar as I know those places described well. Brilliant masterpiece

This was an enjoyable book, although not perfect. I would estimate that about 75% of the stories of the different generations were very interesting and helped move the story along. But that other 25% I would be reading about them wondering why they were even included in the novel.

One bit that worried me at the beginning was the statue carved by the ice age hunter. I was hopeful that it wouldn't be the central focus of the story like happens in many of these historical novels, and as it turns out it wasn't. It made an appearance now and then and was briefly mentioned, which I found much more interesting than acting like it was important to all families through the ages.

Some of these chapters just dragged on. Others were quite fun and nice to read. Not as good as London or New York
