this book was at times a struggle for me to read as it seemed to be more… philosophical? than plot based. Part 3 was phenomenal and it was definitely worth trudging through Part 2 to get to. The characters (especially Julia) lacked depth except for their hatred of Big Brother but as a book about totalitarianism and power it was really well done, overall I’m glad I read this but I don’t think i will be reading it again.

I'd like to read the book after this audio adaptation because there were mentions of significant thing such as thoughts of rape etc from Winston in reviews which were not mentioned in this adaptation

- I thought the acting was incredible but the constant heavy breathing was grating
- the language 'Newspeak' was a fascinating concept. The erasure of a vast vocabulary for control purposes
- the entire premise was  thought provoking & fairly easy to follow
- the ending was harrowing, the acting was superb
- easy to see why it's often classed as a 'must read'
