Very much in the spirit of Hitchhiker's Guide, though with a bit more emotional backing: amusingly absurd, with a nice reflection on the "road not taken". For related watching, see the anime Legend of Black Heaven

The hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy meets the Eurovision song contest. There was not that much if a plot or tension really, but in it's place there was a lot of world building and fresh concepts for aliens. And it was just outright funny.

This is a really fun book in the style of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The writing style at times veers too much into the same absurdist British style as Douglas Addams and it feels like more like copying it than putting their own personal twist on it. Overall though, it's pretty entertaining and I love the idea of an intergalactic Eurovision. I am a sucker for stories imagining what life in space would be like so maybe I'm biased.

I imagine Catherynne Valente thought to herself...

I think I'll write something sort of like Douglas Adams, but with MORE!

If you throw a lot of words at me, all trying to be super funny, a few of them will land. But when you do it in every single sentence with no guidance at all from an actual plot or characters, it becomes exhausting. So exhausting, in fact, that I stopped reading about 2/3rds of the way through.

Funny, poignant, full of glitter. Beautiful and stupid like life itself. An amazing ride from start to finish.
