I enjoyed the first book enough (despite a few major dislikes) to look forward to The Common Girl, but was incredibly disappointed by this book. The hero and heroine are separated for the vast majority of the story, while we are treated to watch example after example of the terrible, unjust things that happen in countries with incompetent rulers. The bad guys get all the wins while the few characters you like simply suffer and find ways to survive. The female companion characters we got to know in The Royal Companion are not present. It's misery and boredom, with zero romance. I don't think I will be reading anymore books in this series.

I binged this last night. I really liked the politics and the growing tension between the kingdoms, but I didn't like how the ending was wrapped up like a bow. It was too perfect. I need to know what happens in the next book!

I love this series. The setting, the characters, the conflicts. I do have to admit though that some VERY stupid mistakes have been made by the characters which can be a little annoying BUT thats normal. I'm not happy with the way this one ended so I am excited for the next book when hopefully things will turn around. I understand why it ended this way though which is why I still gave it 5 stars.

This book follows closely behind the first. Aldara is a companion or possession of the young prince. A new peace treaty with the kingdom that own's her and their enemy has been made by the older prince. They will sell women in exchange for peace.

This book gives you just as much if not more emotion and feelings than the first. In this book there is also some representation for PTSD as Aldara is recovering from her ordeal in book one.

We get more of the secondary characters in this book, and though they could have been flushed out a bit more, you really do get quite a lot from them. I think the side characters in this continuation help propel the plot forward.

This book is beautiful yet heartbreaking. Tanya stays on track with some brutal scenes and it really helps you become emotionally invested in the characters themselves.

The political intrigue and scheming was intensified in this book and has you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I had a hard time putting this book down. I've read this book twice and I think both times I read it in two sittings. At this point of the series you become invested in the characters and their stories. I can tell you for certain I rarely get emotional when reading but this series has my emotions on overdrive. Aldara and Tyron can't catch a break to save their lives.

I'm slowing making my way through the series now that it's completed and I'm not sure how I feel about it being over once I do. Though I can't wait at the same time!
