Trying so hard to show how gosh darn cool the main character is, the author forgot to make him interesting and he just comes across as grating.

I'm not quite sure what this book wants to be. It's about 25% Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 25% Indiana Jones, and 50% the most boring part of the hike to Mt. Doom from Lord of the Rings. Seriously you won't get this from the marketing but 90% of the book is just Duke and the ninja walking around a bronze age civilization and having long (like...really long) conversations about who should stand where.
Duke LaGrange commits the worst sin a comedy can commit. It's boring. It's not so bad its good. It's just a bland study of a very tropey OC.
Like I can't emphasize enough that Duke LaGrange is your friends D&D character concept that he won't shut up about. He's a loveable idiot, but also sometimes very competent, and you'd better believe he's good at violence.
