This one wasn't particularly deep either. But there are definite lines in the sand being drawn. I'm not sure why both girls are so fixated on Tamahome, but he seems to be awfully popular.

Still liking this. Had to go ahead and order the next volumes right away so I could continue reading the series.

Aaaand suddenly there's a completely unexpected Yui thrown into the mix with some "romantic" tension for some reason... Ya know, because just gathering the celestial soldiers wasn't enough of a problem, not we must deal with a random plot-line filled with characters who are inexplicably "in love" with someone they met for all of five minutes... ugh ugh ugh. Also, Nakago's a badass.

This volume also includes some of my favorite "shots" of Hotohori... and the chapter title pages are pretty.

It's heartbreaking what happens to Yui and it must suck to think that your best friend completely forgot about you and came back only for a boy. But for her to immediately want to kill her and ruin her happiness by taking away the boy she likes just reeks of ingrained misogyny.

Welcome to another recap of Fushigi Yugi! in this out third volume Miaka learns some (supposedly) hard truths about being responsible, Yui begins one of the most aggravating rivalries ever in manga history, Nakago AND Chichiri make their magical debuts and the Lai Lai piss off Tai-yi Jun.

Look. I know that in shoujo it's a staple that some sort of romantic rivalry will occur. Girl and several guys. Guy and several girls. Several guys and several girls...but this thing between Yui & Miaka is the most irritating (second only to Tae & Momo in Peach Girl imho).

Nakago proves why we should all bow down to him, even if I know by the end he's hardly worth my time. he's used to good effect here. Qu-dong is given a bit of fleshing, in that ugh that emperor and ugh that country.

Oh also hey Tama baby's family! Everyone remember Chichiri's warning here about Miaka remembering to be careful or others will be sacrificed.

Eh otherwise my irritation over the beginning of the Yui/Miaka rivalry really clouded my enjoyment.
