The premise sounded very interesting but the execution was at times hard to read.
The themes of race, eugenics and perpetual progress were not enjoyable to me, it becomes evident that the book is over 100 years old.
I would have enjoyed this more if our point of view wasn't a "sociologist" who is so stuck up in protecting his world view that he isn't able to delve deeper into a new society.

Started out promisingly but became an endless list of practises and customs of a land populated by females.

Ooohh I really liked this. I don't know if Gilman was ahead of her time or that's just how it was back then, but damn. First of all, the writing felt pretty modern (although i haven't read many books from this period so i have no idea how people talked back then), then the whole story was just pretty entertaining, but most of all, the advanced feminist thinking that was seamlessly woven into the story, often shown in ways that were simple but so absolute. Like, no one can deny it's truthfulness. Interesting also that we had 3 male characters, with those specific personalities as the "main characters". I'm not going to discuss the plot here, nor the themes and ideas, but just know I think that Gilman was pretty brilliant. I will definitely be reading some of her non-fiction in the future, due to this book. I kinda want to live in Herland now(if I don't have to participate in the "motherhood")
