Sadly I'm very frustrated. I found out midway that it was NOT the conclusion and there is another book. I thought book 2 was slow paced and dragging... Book 3 is pretty much the same. Book 1 was good, it had stuff going on it had characters, it was pretty good. But books 2 and 3 pretty much did nothing, nothing happened they just went around making the same mistakes and having the same conversations over and over and oooooveeeeer again. I really wanted to like it, I LOVE time travelling.. but oh well

I didn't enjoy this installment as much as much as the other two.

Even though this book is long (I listened to the audiobook which once again was 22 hours long), I had a really good time reading this. In this book we follow Esta and Harte on separate quests to retrieve 2 artifacts. And of course that doesn’t really go as planned. Not only traveling across America, but also through time. And following a few of the side characters povs in New York.
I am glad I found out about more than half way through that this would not be the last book in the series, but that there will be a 4th book. Because of this I could reset my expectations of this being a finale it definitely was not. I was wondering how she would wrap it all up in this book and it made sense that this was not the end. Only now I do have to wait who knows how long for the last book to come out (once again).

*sigh* This book put me in a reading slump. Minus a star for that lol.
The Good
- Esta and Harte. Legit why I'm here. I will even read book 4 just for them. I like them both, and believe it or not, I'm now here for the romance. It's the silver lining in this massive tome.
- You know I actually don't mind North and Maggie. Weird, I know.
- Jianyu has grown on me. His plot line is still a waste of space, but I like him more now.
- Okay, that whole San Francisco spot and the time traveling and the freaking plague section. Wow, that was a 5 star section, kids.
- The time travel and magic is still dope.
My Complaints
- This series is really starting to feel like a giant wild goose chase. The characters have been trying to do the same thing for TWO MASSIVE BOOKS, and they've made absolutely NO PROGRESS. The end of book 3 looks just like the end of book 1. Did I also mention that the problem these massive books are trying to solve is one that the CHARACTERS CREATED OUT OF MISCOMMUNICATION??? So the whole plot these days feels like a waste of time. *sigh*
- Too many characters and POVs. *sigh*
I'm just glad I've finished, and I hope I can continue to read in my life, and this book wasn't the end of it all. (also I thought this was the last book, but now there's going to be a 4th, and that makes this book even more of a waste of space)

Giving this book a 2/5 pains me. This is a beautiful work of historical fiction with a fantasy aspect and I thoroughly enjoy that. Lisa handles the aspects of race in early 20th century America with the care of a new born baby. It’s honestly talent to address such heavy controversial topics without diminishing their impact or making it offensive to modern readers. I enjoy these characters so much, even the ones I dislike.
My gripe with this book is honestly it either should have been the ending to the series or it should have been shorter. By the end of the book I didn’t feel like we made enough progress plot wise to justify 800 pages. Also I didn’t like some of the things that happened in the plot.
This started to feel more like a screen play from a director whose trying to draw out seasons by prolonging critical aspects.
I enjoyed my time. But by the end I didn’t feel much reward for my harvest.
