"Business is a game," David told Kate, “played for fantastic stakes, and you’re in competition with experts. If you want to win, you have to learn to be a master of the game.”
One of the reasons why [a:Sidney Sheldon|9068|Sidney Sheldon|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1209169297p2/9068.jpg] is one of my favourite authors is because his books are so addicting! This is another classic Sidney Sheldon page-turner full of unpredictable drama, twists, and turns, and (as always) features an incredibly rich, powerful, successful and incredibly manipulative female protagonist.
This book follows the McGregor/Blackwell legacy -
It starts with Jamie McGregor, who travels to South Africa to become a prospector and dig for diamonds. Unfortunately, he got cheated out of his diamonds and beaten half to death by the all-powerful Solomon Van Der Merwe. Out of anger and the desire for revenge, Jamie does everything he can to destroy Van Der Merwe and make a name for himself.
The book then follows the mighty Kate Blackwell (née McGregor), and how she transformed Jamie McGregor’s company into a multi-billion dollar company by using any means necessary.
She was powerless to protect her mother or herself, and it was a lesson she was never to forget. Power. If you had power, you had food. You had medicine. You had freedom. She saw those around her fall ill and die, and she equated power with life. One day, Kate thought, I’ll have power. No one will be able to do this to me again.
Following Kate, the book briefly follows Tony Blackwell, Kate’s son, who aspires to become an artist (much to Kate’s horror) and is constantly living under the pressure to live up to his mother’s expectations.
Finally, the book follows Eve and Alexandra Blackwell, Tony’s identical twin daughters with completely opposite personalities. Eve is selfish and greedy and constantly plotting Alexandra’s demise in order to become the sole heir to the Blackwell fortune, whereas Alexandra is completely selfless and adores and idolizes her sister Eve. Meanwhile, Kate must decide which twin should inherit her company and carry on the Blackwell legacy.

Second time around reading this and the thrill is endless. Beautifully crafted characters with plot-twists in every page. A true page-turner

I've read most, if not all, of Sidney Sheldon's books years ago. However I only remember a couple of stories, so I'll be revisiting all the books again.
If Tomorrow Comes is one of my all time favourite books and I can't help but compare this book to that.
Spoilers follow.
This book started out brilliantly with the diamond heist and the revenge. This was reminiscent of ITC, and was thrilling to read. However I was bored with Kate's story. That is mostly about her building the company, and being entirely business minded. And after going through all that for most of the book, we're not given a proper ending as to what happens to the company.
The twins' story made the book interesting once more, but the ending fizzled out for me. It seemed rushed to tie up loose ends in pretty little bows.
I'm glad I read this book, but I doubt I'll be revisiting it.

No hold barred, and I loved it! I have trouble rating this book though because on one hand, I thought the story was great. But in the other, I felt like it barely scratched the surface and kind of skittered over subjects.
Margaret was a psycho lol. An OG yandere, so that was fun. And I loveeeeed Jamie. Absolutely ruthless. His death was so random and sudden.. gave Margaret a chance to really fly her freak flag tho. Reminds me of the creepy scenes where someone dresses corpses like dolls for tea time and pretends to have conversation.
Katie was driven.. too driven.. and eve.. the real psycho
Anywho! I totally would have loved this book so much more if there was more substance. This was more being told a series of events instead of experiencing them and that’s not to my preference

I’ll say this piece of work is one of THE BEST of author’s. This is an amazing page turner which made me sit all day and night with it, whenever I got time. The key point you’ll see everywhere in this novel is POWER. What power means to each person and what a person can do or go to any extent to attain that power. Meantime, no matter how powerful you are or the power you attain on the road to struggle, at the end all it matters is righteous mindset. “You reap what you sow”. This novel discusses in detail about everything - consistency, betrayal, revenge, love, affair, dominance, hope, control. I really enjoyed how each characterisation is sculptured, like the character is so authentic and brings you chill. Each character will make you feel what it exactly want you to feel. There are moments in-between chapters where you will feel like “WHAT” (accompanies various mood) when the power shifts from one character to another. This novel is like 3 season of series, such a huge story. Only Sidney Sheldon can put everything inside 489 pages. This is one hell of a novel. If you’re looking for best suspense thriller, then this is the one you’re looking for.
