I REALLY loved the pacing of the Bane storyline and I think Finch’s art fits with Batman’s world more so than say Wonder Woman.

Also, the issue with Swamp Thing was so well done! I loved the noir vibes while it also sort of meditated on what is life and death.

Highly recommend this run!

Reading Tom King’s run on this title at the same time as James Tynion IV’s run on Detective Comics, I can’t help but compare, and I can tell you that King’s writing isn’t good whereas Tynion’s is brilliant. His (King’s) dialogue is so stiff and uninteresting; Gotham girl is annoying and...weird; and each of his storylines sound like they are going to be awesome but stretch across 5 or 6 issues things that really should have taken up around 2 issues. It just all feels very static and inconsequential and I am not a fan. I will continue with this comic but only because I love this character, not because I like King’s story.

I'm a little confused here. Did the Rebirth Event retcon Bat history? This story had so many parallels with the Knightfall event back in the 90s that I wasn't sure whether this was paying homage to that or if this was stealing blatantly from it.

The twist in the relationship between Catwoman and Batman near the end was pretty damn good. In fact I liked it so much that it helped bump this up a star for me.

3.5 but rounded up because a) most of the art is great and b) the scene with the boys in Bat Burger is adorable and funny and makes Bruce feel more human than 100 proposals or kisses with Selina ever would.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind the proposal issue and the art on that particular page is glorious but I was always a bit meh about the idea of Bats and Cat getting married.
This is 100% better than the previous issue.
Although I've just realised I should have paused to read The Button (Flash c/o) after the Bane arc.

This was pretty meh for the most part but there were a couple of lil numerous moments that I really enjoyed.

And I’m gonna say it again, I’m not really into Bruce/Selena but at the end with the ring she stole? My heart MELTED

This was a very solid Batman book. The art was good, the story compelling and true to the characters. It took some unexpected turns, particularly in the epilogue. All and all, a great read. There was an especially strong issue early on in the book that showed Batman and Bane's lives in parallel that made for a really powerful character piece. I was very impressed by it.
The biggest reason this is only getting 4 stars from me instead of 5 is an issue with denouement, specifically a distinct lack of it. Issues ended with explosive moments, but then it was difficult to string together what happened afterward. This was especially hard to follow with the end of this I Am Bane arc-- we have some great denouement with Batman, Gotham Girl, and Catwoman, but we don't know what ended up really happening with Bane, which left me a little frustrated as a reader.
