rae_bookmarkchronicles's review against another edition
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series but it's been almost a year since I read book 2. It also feels like its stating to shift to focusing on the next generation and I don't want that

I think the book could be like 50% shorter and have the same impact. Just saying. I don't love a meandering plot when it could be more concise. It does help build suspense and dramatic irony but the twists would have been just as twisty with a little less lol.
I also guess I didn't pick up on how ubiquitously Christian the themes and characters were in the first two books. But yeah they really throw that shit in your face every chance possible in this one. Like some teens are having a conversation about what the science is behind their miracle street pharmaceutical that cures people and one of them dead ass says "there's only one answer that matters: that god has made it so" and everyone in the room takes that seriously and gets somber like wtf. Any room I was in as a teen (even as a hyper religious freak that I was at the time) and someone said that shit they'd be made fun of. Like Divine influence being taken so seriously by everyone seems silly to me, naïve and childish.
I fuck with the ending heavy, seems like shit is going to pop off next book. I liked Fawna still in this one but I didn't love that between the 2nd and 3rd books she grows up so much and seems soooo different than she was last on page. I would've liked to have seen some of the maturing that made her so against exploring her own powers on page and not just told it through her inner dialogue that she's afraid to navigate the powers she accessed so freely when she was a toddler. Idk I'm just being nitpicky not but I really do fuck with this series so it feels okay to be pedantic
