Una stella in meno solo perché era pieno di n word 😠 

Mi ha ricordato quella volta che mi sono costruito il pc con i pezzi ordinati, quando l'ho acceso e funzionava completamente ero come Bartolomeu Lorenzo. 

Mi si rispense subito dopo perché avevo messo male due fili, ma dettagli. Si alzò in volo pure quello, non grazie alle volontà ma alle crisi d’ira.

 Este livro deu-me muito sono. Nunca consegui eu ser tão facilmente transportada para um sono profundo como quando lia este livro - não sei se isto é um ponto positivo ou negativo, honestamente.

Como é próprio do estilo saramaguiano, há uma constante sátira e crítica mordaz à sociedade da época (e contemporânea também), nomeadamente à hipocrisia da coroa, do clero e do povo, que sendo o elemento desta santíssima trindade que menos posses tem, demonstra exatamente as mesmas falhas de caráter que os outros dois terços deste trio. Este elemento é algo que eu aprecio nos livros de Saramago e sempre me cativa, daí reler este livro 7 anos depois (que pontaria divina esta minha).

No entanto, rapidamente me apercebi que este livro não é para mim, daí dar 3 estrelas à obra. Eu consigo perceber porque é tão aclamada obra, consigo retirar os elementos textuais que claramente refletem a genialidade do autor, mas não foi uma leitura da qual tenha desfrutado.

A história Baltasar/Blimunda/Padre/Passarola não me interessou nada. Há uma componente espiritual com a qual me identifico e que melhorou a minha percepção desta história, onde destaquei algumas passagens que me diziam alguma coisa (algo que não tinha acontecido na primeira vez que li). Contudo, a minha vontade de acompanhar estas personagens veio ao de cima só quando o Baltasar desapareceu e mesmo assim era porque já estava nas últimas páginas do livro e sabia que estava quase a terminá-lo. Tive a mesma dificuldade de me ligar ao "amor belo e trágico" deles como há 7 anos atrás, mas para quem gosta das personagens e acha interessante seguir as suas vidas, é uma parte que de certeza capta muitas pessoas.

Falando do sono que me perseguia a leitura, debati-me com as longas descrições e enumerações de elementos descrevendo o quão bizarra ou irónica alguma situação ou personagem era. Eu consigo reconhecer o seu propósito, consigo antever que seja exatamente isso que cativa muitos leitores nesta obra, mas o facto é que depois de páginas e páginas e páginas e páginas de descrições e enumerações de coisas que honestamente não me interessam para nada, especialmente depois de perceber a ideia do autor nos primeiros três exemplos, a minha atenção caiu a pique, o meu sono chegou à frente, e eu dei por mim a saltar ditos parágrafos à frente.

Em suma, sinto-me muito neutra, não adorei nem odiei; gostei de certos elementos, mas não o suficiente para delirar com eles; não me identifiquei com outros, mas também não o suficiente para parar de ler e nunca mais pegar no livro. Classificação: 3 estrelas.

Saramago's writing style is so annoying and yet so beautiful. His way of phrasing things is unique, easily recognized and can be so incredibly perfect sometimes and yet so infuriating in other moments. 

His writing style is different, unique and that surely makes him special. But his books wouldn't thrive if it didn't work. And whereas it is true that the only reason why the book got only 3.25 stars was the writing style that made it so hard to understand what was being told sometimes, it's also true that I can't imagine a better person to describe some of the scenes. Beautiful, poignant descriptions of times, people and places that envoke the images in your head with such vividness you can't help being surprised by that.

I complained so much in the beginning about the title of the English version. And while I still think that the original is a better one as more than about the lives of those two characters that make the English version title, this book is about that convent and all the lives lost, all the men forced to leave their homes to honor a promise they didn't make. To honor the promise of the King that would get all the credits in the end while the common people is forgotten. But Baltasar and Blimunda isn't that bad of a title either. And their love story, although with a quiet weird and undoubtely too rushed beginning, is an unforgetable and extraordinarily beautiful one. Especially in the end the descriptions are absolutely  heartwarming and that end (which I believed that I knew, only to realize it was actually the other way around) is at the samd time heartwarming and heartbreaking, mixing both in one single emotion impossible to describe, but that Saramago painted magnificently in his last scene.

Saramago's writing style isn't for everyone, his books are not for everyone. But if you are willing to give him a chance, you will, sooner or later, realize the beauty hidden in the complexity of his writing style, the beauty that shines in those descriptions made like no one else can because no one has a writing style as unique as his.

And if you give this book a chance, if you open it willing to read it till the end, I am sure you will find its beauty too and actually enjoy the time you spend reading it, even when it takes longer than you expected, because beautiful or not, his writing style sometimes becomes to much.
