I hate giving one star reviews, but if possible this book would get a .25 star. I just spent hours of my life reading almost 600 pages filled with a weak heroine, an arrogant hero, a sado-masochist villain, and the densest prose I’ve ever read. This comment doesn’t even note the various issues I had with supporting characters. I wouldn’t even know where to begin nor do I wish to waste any more of my time. If you are a fan of intelligent banter, strong female leads, and respectful men, then don’t read this book.

This has so many delicious elements: An arranged marriage between two families - which is too much for the male half of this (one Colton Wyndham)to bare. So he goes off to soldier and when he comes back *gasp* his betrothed is still there and DAMN is she fine! But wait - I must assert my independence and prove that love cannot be forced - even to this fine doxy that is Lady Adriana Sutton. So Colton proposes to try a 90 trial of togetherness to show that he is giving it a fair chance. But he knows after 90 days he will just be proven correct - and that they can wash hands of each other with clear minds. (Good thing we know better.) Throw in some rivals for attention and a little danger? Yup. It's a good time.

what can I say?
My first Historical Romance ever and this book has if I remember correctly 7 deaths in it!!! me & my Friends, we call it "the Book of Roger" (for one of the character). I was so sidetracked by the murderer that he became my favourite. I was kind of rooting for him in a perverse way...
IMO this book contain every stereotype of HR but it is really well done. It is a really good book to enter this kind of literature.

Ughh, I should avoid Woodiwiss. My mom liked this author, so I have tender memories of reading some of her copies as a young teenager. But it can get too repetitive even for a romance. Shotgun wedding. Creepy stalker that turns murderous by the end. Heroine saves everyone but the guy usually sweeps in at the last second to save everyone too. I think she usually has an animal almost die in every one as well. I am also in a mood where I don't want everyone to be unbelievably beautiful, witty, and constantly absorbed with their sexual appetites. Yep, skimmed through as fast as I could. Just couldn't do it anymore.

I had it as a three star originally but I couldn't remember why given that I do have a favorite book from this author. So I tried to read it again and it was so hard to read this book. There was alot of description and drawn out thinking for characters. It was too much. I started skimming and made it 42% of the way through. I was so bored. I couldn't finish it.
