this is technically a dnf but since I got to 86% I might as well rate what I read. this was a 2.3✨ the writing wasn’t bad and the overall plot wasn’t boring per se it was just that Noah and Mac didn’t interest me as a couple. However, I will be reading the next book in the series because I think I’ll like them more.

Listened and Read

Noah and Mac were quite a couple. It did take me a couple tries to get into this book. I tried listening at first and then switched to reading and then switched back to listening. I did finally get into the swing of it and the narration was awesome. I love a good second chance romance especially when the characters grow so much individually that when they come back together it brings it to a whole new level.

Ehhh it was okay. Had so much potential but just missed the mark. Also Tristan James isn’t my favorite narrator so overall wasn’t the best time haha

I see what all the other reviews were talking about with the time jumps. It also didn’t work for me. I did enjoy the suspense, but I didn’t love how many characters there were to try and remember. It was a whole lot of information to dump on someone to set up the world building, and especially for listening on audio it became hard to keep up with all the different characters. I did enjoy the two main characters, and felt their love story was well done.

KU. 4 solid stars. This is a great start to a series and I’ve already downloaded the next one. I adored getting to know Noah & Mac ~ as individuals and as a couple. This was a great mix of action, mystery, suspense, and romance.

The only drawback was that as the beginning of a series the author did a LOT of worldbuilding and character introductions that felt overwhelming at times. Especially given that the Phoenix group operatives had names, nicknames and sometimes their nicknames had nicknames. The Marshals also alternated going by first or last names. And we had all the antagonists and tertiary characters to keep track of as well.

Overall, it was a terrific and engaging story and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Oh this was taboo, the age difference wasnt crazy the hero worship maybe was a little intense and i love a good age gap. Noah deserves the world and then some but hes also such a bada** for overcoming what he didnt and becoming the top lethal agent he is. Mac babe i felt for you your despair, i thought it was hilarious when he was trying to save noah not knowing how lethal he was but thats just me and my dark humor. Running to book 2
