One day a young girl’s parents brought her a big yellow balloon. The girl takes one look at Loonie and she knows that she has found a best friend. The girl brings Loonie everywhere she goes, including the balloon in all of her activities with joy and excitement. When the balloon inevitably drifts away, the girl is sad but with the help of her two moms, she plants a flower to remember Loonie and begins to find yellow everywhere she looks. The vibrant colors and warm illustrations complete this gentle book on loss, grieving and recovery. A worthwhile addition to any collection. Recommended for preK-2

Thank you to YaBooksCentral, Nina LaCour & Ashling Lindsay for a copy of this book! I was beyond excited when I got this in the mail.
This is such a cute & wholesome story about a girl and her balloon. It makes her open her eyes up to the beauty around her after she loses it. I also love that there are 2 mom's in this book but they don't give direct focus to it- it's just the way it is and that's perfect.
I am so happy to have this among my collection of children's books for my future students to read.

A balloon becomes a girl's companion and her loss and sadness at losing it is dealt with well. Maybe a 3.5 for lost favorite toy requests, but I don't think it is one of 100.
Doesn't seem to be on the Capitol Choices up to 5 list now.

The sweetness of a young friendship and learning how to cope with the loss of it — perfectly lovely. The illustrations are lush and beautiful. Add this to the small stack of picture books with gay parent rep.
