Really enjoyed this. As with a similar book I've just read, I was impressed and taken with the level of humanity throughout this book. I particularly appreciated that Dr Adshead did not just look at the more palatable offences, but some incredibly tough ones too. Whilst there were many parts that were deeply familiar to me, there was also a lot of learning in here, and I am excited to apply it to my own line of work.

A beautifully written book, full of compassion for those we often spare none for. It’s heartwarming to know that people like Dr Adshead exist in the world of forensic psychiatry. We often only see convicted criminals as the crimes that they have committed, but this glimpse into who they are before, during, and after their crimes is eye opening, and I’ll carry some of these stories (like Gabriel’s) with me forever.

I think I learned more about how to be a great therapist in this book than I did in my entire psychology degree. I couldn't put the book down. Dr Adshead has so much wisdom and expertly humanises her clients. Anyone with a black-and-white view of offenders needs to read this; I dare you not to come out with a deeper sense of empathy on the other side.
