Loved the format and the stories. The authors use intelligence and sharpness with compassion and dignity for those they discuss. Each stories helps strengthen its goal of changing perspectives for which we call evil.

While the individual case studies were all interesting in their own right I never felt like it added up to a sum that was bigger than its parts.

A beautifully written book, full of compassion for those we often spare none for. It’s heartwarming to know that people like Dr Adshead exist in the world of forensic psychiatry. We often only see convicted criminals as the crimes that they have committed, but this glimpse into who they are before, during, and after their crimes is eye opening, and I’ll carry some of these stories (like Gabriel’s) with me forever.
