Wow, this book is dark and tackles some tough topics. It's not what I expected, but it's still a great read.
I think it would have been a better read if Millie had been more likable, before the very end of the book. I get why Nina had to be unlikable at first.
Overall, it’s a great read about women taking their power back. I only recommend it if you can handle going to quite dark places and can handle the content warnings mentioned below without it bringing up trauma.

Narrator Rating: 4.0 stars
While the narrator did an excellent job with the various voices, her voice for Millie was quite annoying, which made the book harder to listen to for longer stretches.

The Housemaid encapsulates its readers immediately and is difficult to put down. It provides mystery and plot twist after plot twist. It will have you on the edge of your seat until the every last page; even after I am eager to read the next installment.

If I were to judge this one based on how much I liked the characters I would give it a 3 only because the whole cheating storyline and emotional abuse by Nina was a bit tired. That said, as unreasonable this story was I loved it!! I don’t want a thriller that makes complete sense. I want one where I’m not sure what everyone’s motivations are and some wild fight ensues to cap off the climactic drama. That’s this book. It was super easy to read with short chapters which kept me hooked. I kept saying, “okay this chapter is short so I’ll read it,” and then end up reading 50 pages. Millie is fresh but if prison and needs a job where no one will ask what her stint in prison was for. Nina needs a maid to clean her house, take care of her daughter, and manage her life. It’s a meeting made in heaven! When Nina doesn’t seem to do a background check on Millie their seemingly serendipitous relationship begins. Throw in a wildly attractive husband who isn’t home often and a hot Italian Gardner that doesn’t seem to speak English and you’ve got a fun thriller set in the backdrop of wealth and privilege. This one was a bit predictable but still a really great read! I’m excited for the next one after the way this one ended.

Wenn man weiß, dass in diesem Buch nichts so ist, wie es scheint, wird es leider etwas vorhersehbar. Nichts desto trotz blieb es bis zu letzten Seite extrem spannend und ich liebe den Schreibstil.
