A few too many characters to keep track of. Also, this felt MUCH darker than mary Higgins Clark’s other books! That said, this has been one of her books where I couldn’t guess the ending.

I'm not a big fan of suspense or surprises so I don't normally read books like this. But it was here (it had been a gift) and I nothing to read that day so I picked it up. I admit after the first few chapters I flipped to the back to see what was going to happen (told you I don't like surprises) then I went back and finished it to see how it all played out.

So, it kept my attention but it's not really my style. Therefore, 3 stars.

This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I've read. It was an interesting story with tons of plot twists. I thought I knew the ending from the beginning but was no where close. It was a good easy read and enjoyable for the most part. I didn't love it. I was bothered often by the things characters would say. They didn't seem realistic or how people actually talk which I found annoying. However, a good mystery and interesting who-dunnit.

What if an adult just disappears one day and then calls home every mother's day for just a few seconds? Would you try to find them? Interesting idea, ok story. 04242008

Listen - I LOVE me some MHC. This book has a lot of classic MHC elements, but somehow it fell flat. It didn’t engage me the way her other books do. While the plot was well-constructed, the protagonist just didn’t come alive like they usually do for me, and I just wasn’t turning pages like I usually do with MHC. I read a sample of “Just Take My Heart” at the end, and those 4 chapters were more engaging than all of “Where Are You Now?” It’s not a horrible book, but I know Mary has better.

This was a good, solid mystery. Nothing special, didn't LOVE it, but it was an enjoyable way to pass some time.

Charles MacKenzie Jr (Mac) went missing ten years ago. He had his whole life in front of him a senior at Colombia University who was about to graduate and go onto Duke University Law School. The bazaar thing is that every year Mac phones his mother on her birthday, his birthday and Mother’s Day he assures her that he is alright then hangs up before answering any of his mother’s questions.

Carolyn is Mac’s sister who is twenty six who is determined to find out where her brother disappeared to and why he never came back. Her search will lead her into another world of the unknown to people who have also gone missing who choose that life and of people who are no longer living. Will Carolyn find out where Mac has been all this time or will his disappearance remain a mystery?

An intriguing and enjoyable read that will keep you guessing to the end. Recommended.
