So many dated immigrant stereotypes. White people this and white people that. I am an 80s child if immigrants. Some of it is realistic but a lot of it was over the top. I wanted to like this book but I don’t like books who make Asian people seem racist and dumb.

While the subject is dark and sad, the characters' inner thoughts are so well written that you can't quite hate even the worst of the characters. You get many different perspectives and voices throughout the book, which help to understand what each character has been through and is experiencing. I also enjoyed this book because I had no idea that there was a Vietnamese population and Australia and found that angle fascinating and sad at the same time.
