The only reason why I didn't give it 4stars is that it left me wanting more. I learned a lot about what the dog is trying to tell me but not that much about how to communicate with or train the dog using the calming signals.

A quick read, this is a great book on communicating with dogs. It has a bit too many stories in it for me and I wish it had more pictures (although there is apparently a dvd by the author) but the information in it is so, so important.
The author talks about all of the many ways dogs communicate with us, and how important it is that we recognize these and pay attention to what our dogs are telling us.
I’m definitely going to be getting Turid Rugaas’ other books.

Excellent overview of signals dogs use to communicate with the world around them. Especially to de-escalate situations and make the other party feel at ease. The book goes on to explain how you should interpret them, but also how to use them to talk to your dog.

Wow, just wow! I just can't say enough about this book. This is a short book, but the information that the author packs into those 78 pages is simply amazing. I learned SO much and can't wait to begin using my new knowledge in training classes.

This book is great, informative. Easy to understand and gives a new perspective on signs of stress in dogs - that being some signs of stress are behaviours that dogs do to help calm themselves. This book is all about positive reinforcement, making the dogs feel comfortable and treating them with respect.
