CW: sexual content, harassment, misogyny, violence
🌟 Knight x Princess
🌈 Sapphic MCs
🌶 Light bondage
I don't know how to rate this, if I'm being honest. It was fun, but it was also quite bland. The premise was there, I was super excited, I was raring to go. But something felt sort of empty. I felt like this really needed a dual POV, as opposed to a single third person POV. I feel like we got a great character in Gwen, but Ava just felt very 2D. There was nothing really to her other than our observations from Gwen.
This had so much potential, but it felt a bit lackluster in the romance department. I'd have happily just taken Gwen, the dragon, and a badass fantasy storyline. And coming from a reader predominately focused on romance, that's a big statement.
I just kinda felt sorry for Gwen the whole time. It felt like she was continually being manipulated and controlled by everyone else and their expectations and Ava didn't really seem to have much regard as to what she was asking from Gwen at times. Plus there's the power imbalance and one scenario where the consent was sketchy.

Good story line that was underdeveloped because of the smut focus.

This sounded really interesting to me, but sadly fell flat. The strongest point of this would have to be the romance. I thought it was a nice role reversal to have the princess be the more assured one in the relationship, and in general. Ultimately they were just very cute together.
What failed for me was the plot. The plot concept we're given is fun, but unfortunately it's barely developed and doesn't really come into play until near the end of the book. By that point I found myself skimming a fair bit, sadly. It didn't help that most of the time the MCs didn't seem to spend much time together. I am writing this a bit later, so some of the details do slip my mind, but I remember them just being off doing their own, separate, thing for most of the book with only bits and pieces of them together. I think the main issue is the author struggling to find balance between the plot and relationship with neither getting the amount of page time they needed.
