An incredibly harrowing and at times very difficult book to read due to the content. And yet, Jeni's story is one of incredible strength, intelligence, and bravery. Very well written and engaging throughout. I hope it achieves exactly what she hopes it does.

Wow. That's the only word I can use to start my review. I'm in awe. I'm in awe of the lengths an abuser will go, and in awe of the perseverance of the human mind and spirit. This was a very difficult read, but very worth the pain you feel as you navigate through her horrifying tale. To know they anyone has had to fight their way out of such a horrific way of life is heartbreaking. As soon as I finished reading this I just wanted to give her a hug. This story was very well written and I enjoyed the back and forth between chapters with George and the alters. It's hard to say I enjoyed the book because of how terrible and heartbreaking it is, but I did. I enjoyed seeing her finally get the closure she deserves and gain strength along the way. This book is not for the faint of heart, but really opens your eyes to the horrors that can happen right on your block.
