This is more 3.5 stars. I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I was intrigued by the story. It held my interest. There were times I couldn’t put it down. I liked Geralt. I liked Dandilion. I liked the goat demon uk uk. I definitely loved nennekke.
But I didn’t love this book. It was all over the place on timeline, which is one of my top three pet peeves in books. I don’t mind going back into and out of different times, but you have to transition to let me the reader know its happening and what time we are in currently. The story kept coming back to nennecke and the temple of mellilete throughout the book that didn’t make sense. I mean maybe there’s some significance. I thought I finally got it until the end chapters where I thought they were leaving, but going there.
My other issue is the introduction of so many characters and plot lines without really introducing them, especially when it came to yennefer’s character. I can only think that the next book in the series kind of puts everything together. I know we are setting up Geralt’s character, but I didn’t understand why or how. Maybe I’m missing something. I don’t know. I just feel like the story of yennefer and the djinn and that plot should have been the main plot and everything should have lead up to it. Again, maybe I’m missing something.
I’m not opposed to reading anymore books in the series, especially since I think that there is some reason for some of the stories. Could the elf flute be something later? Who knows
