Not really what I was expecting. Not much in the way of mystery and Christmas only came into it at the end but the characters were well done and I think I'd like to follow Vespasia in more stories.

If I hadn't first accidentally read a book much further on in this series and thoroughly enjoyed it, and if the book had not been as short and quick to read, I don't know what my thoughts really would have been with this. There really wasn't a mystery persay, yes a tragic event and a resolution but I would not have shelved this as a mystery.

Slow moving mystery. Only tangentially Christmassy (Christmas happens right at the end of the novella).   Found myself enjoying this Scottish journey in this Victorian set novella.
