Adventurous ending of the trilogy. A lot of giants, nyxies and small salamanders and wyrms. You will definitely enjoy this one. :)

The part where different fantastic species were dependent on each other and kept each other's populations in check added an almost unexpected layer of reality and really did make this book for me. I mean, the entire plot of this third and final instalment hinges on this natural balance, so...
When I began reading this spin-off series, I wasn't even sure I should read it. Overall, now that I've finished it, what I can say in conclusion is that I definitely needed to. Otherwise I might have asked myself 'what if' for a long time. As is, I know these are completely decent reads, maybe not the sort that makes me wish I could give them more than 5 stars, but very enjoyable indeed, and completely deserving of the 4 stars I've given them.

Oh thank goodness the audioboooks were 2 hours each AND for Libby reading speed being able to up the speed. I personally didn't like this spinoff and it felt like it was unecssary and they were too quick, the character development for this short trilogy wasn't the greatest, the execution of this story felt too bland and random. To the point I was honestly bored. But for kids books they'll be enjoyable still, but I think I'd prefer the originals to this with the Grace kids and their adventures. *shrugging shoulders*
So I guess overall I had to do my EXTREMELY RARE 1 star ratings for this spinoff trilogy, and no matter how heartbreaking it is it rate a book as a 1 star, I have to go with my gut and rate them all 1 star *crying*

I thoroughly enjoyed the previous series (five books) and the first two in this trilogy, though not as much as the original series. This final book, though, felt rushed and ended suddenly.

Loved this book! First on a side note I want to say I'd love to see another spin off series with Jared and Laurie as teens for a ya more than a children's or middle grade audience. Not that that has anything to do with this book but had to share my curious wish.
Even though Nick has been the main character through most of this series I didn't really start to like him at all until the end of the second book and even then it was reluctantly. In this book Nick's character grew into someone I actually admired and enjoyed spending so much time with. My favorites are still Laurie and Jared, but Nick turned out to make an excellent hero. I loved that Nick's skills wasn't so much that he was fast or strong but that even though he's kind of chubby and terrible at sports he's smart and when it comes down to it and it really matters, he's brave. I loved that Black and DiTerlizzi showed that these skills he had but never acknowledged as skills were enough to save the day against an even greater foe than Jared and his siblings faced in the first series.
This series definitely builds as you go from book to book and I found I liked it even better than the original series and while it's unlikely I hope to eventually see more stories from this world with these amazing and memorable characters.

This one wasn't my favorite. One of the characters lies a lot and no one really calls her out on it, they almost seem to admire her for how easily and believably she can do it. It was a little disturbing. I kept waiting for something to happen to show her she maybe shouldn't lie, but nothing. They just acted like it was a normal everyday thing. Not exactly what I expected from a kids book.
