Simple summer read.

I really liked this one! It's a little bit time travely, done in a completely chick-lit for teens way. Or maybe more like The Lakehouse, but instead of a magic mailbox, it's a magic cell phone. Also! This book is ridiculously clean.

2 1/2. While reading this book, I alternated between really enjoying it and wanting to throw it across the room. Parts of the plot frustrated me to no end, while other parts had me laughing. This book was very hot and cold for me, with the overall effect being lukewarm.

This was a cute, quick-moving story about a senior in HS who is somehow able to call her Freshman self. Each change in the freshman's behavior brings a different round of changes to the Senior. Lots of funny situations, but ends with a good life lesson.

This was very cute and fun to read. I loved Devi at both ages, as a freshman and a senior. Although she annoyed me at some points, especially as a senior, which I think is what slowed down my reading for awhile. but I did really love the way it was all pulled together at the end, it ended a bit different than I expected which was good. It felt like a perfect ending for the book, too.

The emotions from Devi were great as well, and I felt sorry for her so many times, and happy for her too. Bryan also seemed really sweet and was one of my favorite characters, even if there wasn't too much of him. I kept rooting for Frosh to just go with it and date him already.

Here is another book that has been on my TBR for 10+ years. I must have seen it at the library as a teenager and thought it looked good. And you know what? Teenage Beth was not wrong.
When Devi falls into the fountain at the mall 2 weeks before prom in her senior year, things seem dismal. Her boyfriend has broken up with her and now her phone doesn't work. She can only phone/text one person: herself 3.5 years earlier. Freshman Devi has just started high school and is confused to find out that she is receiving phone calls from herself in the future. Now senior Devi has all the power to change everything that has gone wrong. However, they find out that small changes in the past can have vast consequences in the future.
This book was your basic teen read with of time travelling. A refreshing little pinch of sci-fi for teenage girls. I can imagine reading this in high school and being interested to try out a little more science fiction in my reading. The writing was well done. Even with two characters who are literally the same person, you always knew who was who and what was happening with each character. It reads a little like fluff but has some good lessons for young people. Honestly, I found myself very pleasantly surprised and would recommend.

A fun, fast, and well-written read. I liked the end, but I think the whole story could have benefited by ending a few chapters earlier.

This book has such a fun concept! A broken cellphone gives a recently heartbroken senior the chance to talk to herself, over three years ago. She has the chance to make better decisions and change the things about her life that she's currently unhappy with. Great concept, lack luster execution. Not bad, just not great.

The story tends to jump around too quickly to keep track of and not all of the changes that happen are fully explained. As young Devi makes new decisions, older Devi instantly see's the consequences, but sometimes this is taken too far. Not every decision you make (in terms of who to date, for example) is going to affect anything in your future. It got a little silly. A lot of the action and character motivations in the book seemed to just be there to move the story along. Plus, Devi never got the corresponding memories that came with her new life, so she was always left in a bit of a daze, so I was usually just as confused as she was.

Devi (cool name) tries to make a lot of the same changes that I would. Do better in school, do more extra curricular stuff etc. But the main thing she attempts to change is the three year relationship between her and her high school sweetheart, Bryan. You can see pretty early that she's doing this for the wrong reasons, but it's still interesting to watch. Older Devi also goes a little crazy on her younger self, trying to push herself as hard as she can. This is another thing I could totally see myself doing.

Kind of random, but I love the cover on this one. It's simple but really grabs your eye. Just glancing at it my mom knew it was something she'd want to read after I was done.

All that being said, it's still a fun, light read. I seriously finished this book in less than 2.5 hours, that's a new record for me. Plus, I got to do it while lounging around outside in the summer, so I'll definitely call this book a great summer read.
