This is a deeply moving book. one of the very first I remember portraying trauma in a way that was both realistic and accessible to young readers. One of my favorite books read for sixth grade language arts (it helped this was one of the few that wasn't about going off into the wilderness and where the relationships were between humans rather than dogs), I remember sobbing while I read. This is one that has stayed with me, and I believe has influenced my work as a therapist.

Super dramatisches Ende!

This book is a great mix of friendship and loyalty. However, it doesn't have a happy ending in the slightest.

Reread this book as an adult and it still holds up. I loved it.
So raw and heartbreaking.

Not the most compelling story, but some interesting plot aspects. The characters aren’t that interesting, but they aren’t bad. 3.5 stars

So cute and real and shocking and sad at the same time.
Plus the ending had me crying!
(And I usually don’t cry because of books or films !)

Update: it’s now almost 2 years later and this book restarted my passion for reading I’m so grateful I picked it up
