This book tells all about the life cycle of a painted lady butterfly. It is all taking place within the setting of a classroom. The students observe as the caterpillar eats, molts, and grows. It finally forms a chrysalis and later hatches into a butterfly. At the end of the book the students are both happy and sad as they set the adult free. There are also examples of other butterflies shown at the end of the book.

I thought this book was very good. It has a lot of details about the stages of the life of a butterfly. It is full of factual information and the illustrations are helpful.

This book would be a great one to use when studying the life cycle of a butterfly and complete metamorphosis. It would be a great companion text for a class that was going to observe painted lady larvae hatch in their room (text to world). This nonfiction book and Houdini: The Amazing Caterpillar, a fiction book, could be used together (text to text).
