Gobsmacked. I haven’t read  a book like this in a long time, if ever. It manages to be so many things at once. Brutal and beautiful, sexy and gruesome, heartwarming and heartbreaking. The hype had me skeptical for the first few chapters but I quickly grew attached and can already tell these are characters that will live in me now long after reading. The plot was immaculate; executed to perfection with the reader’s  experience in mind at all times. It’s a work of genius, no exaggeration. And it is as sad as they say, but worth it.

For me this was an OK book and I don’t understand the hype around it. In general I don’t like war or stories about war or violent mythology. Achilles and Patroclus were very likeable at the start, and the first half of the book was very interesting and tender. But the second half of the book felt boring and bad to me. It just didn’t invoke any emotion whatsoever. I didn’t like who Achilles turned out to be.

A page turner . It will get a bit monotonous in the middle but the ending is worth it . If you know Greek mythology you might guess the ending. But one thing is guaranteed and that is that this authors fails to disappoint with her appropriate descriptions and dramatic scenes and immaculate portrayal of the leads who share a bond which is beyond imagination and one of the best ever.

I liked the writing and especially Patroclus's inner monologue about Achilles. I don't love greek mythology so I wasn't surprised that I didn't like most of the world.
