Tropes: Workplace romance, forced proximity, experienced girl/"virgin" guy
First off, London! The setting is London. British men! Niall Stella is British!! I'm in love already. I appreciated that due to Niall's recent divorce. he struggles to commit and fully be in a new relationship. Especially considering his last relationship has been his only one ever. So relatively, the whole dating scene is new for him. He is a highly respected man at his job and is one of the best.
Secondly, Ruby Miller is one fucking badass bitch...with a major crush. She is an American living my American dream. She is still a student and is planning on being in a program to further her career. She works as an intern in London at a firm that focuses on engineering with the Underground service. And has a creepy boss, Tony, who also works side by side with Niall.
Not once has Ruby been on Niall's radar that is until one morning meeting Ruby speaks up and answers for Niall. Now talk about an attention grabber. Until both characters are forced to go to New York for their firm and be representatives. This is huge for Ruby but Niall is indifferent since he barely knows her. During their time at NY, both become close and develop a friendship until one drunken night that changes their relationship after.
I enjoyed the story a lot and the character's development but albeit I was frustrated with the fucking MISCOMMUNICATION that happened. I let it not completely cloud my judgment considering this was Niall's main flaw that he had to work on. I guess the book did it's job well cause I would actually be genuinely upset at them. This definitely helped with this being dual POV (hallelujah!). I think I would be more angry at Ruby than Niall when she would blame him for not being completely forward about a lot of things. I mean he did tell her what had happened to him and why he was like that (also FUCK PORTIA [his ex wife] for fucking up this poor man). Ruby came from two phycologists whose jobs were to talk to people to get their feelings out vs Niall who didn't have that and was emotionally stunned by his ex. Two complete opposite people. In the end. Don't get me wrong being in both their minds I completely understood each of them. There were no right/wrong sides.
I completely understood her frustration towards the ends especially after that one scene "that's lovely". Yea, she had every right to be upset considering her patience towards him. I admit, I respected his decision but the way he went about doing it was completely horrible. This made me side with Ruby fully. I just wished he could've explained himself more clearly. I did appreciate Portia's character in the end and loved how civil both her and Niall were and I loved how she knocked some sense into him by telling him how he should handle Ruby. Overall, I loved Pippa (her best friend in London), Max Stella (literally want to read his book now) and his protectiveness over Niall and the other of Niall's friends. There were funny moments in this. Also the cute moments between Niall and Ruby literally made me envious of them. They were honestly really cute. Definitely a lot more smut than I initially thought there would be but I dont mind 😈.
Oh and FUCK ANTHONY!
