It was nice to see an MMC, Sebastian, so openly pursuing the FMC, Helena, in hopes of making her his wife as normally this is done the other way in Historical Romances. Sebastian "My Duchess" Cynster was overbearing, controlling, and possessive, which if you're reading HRs, is something you're not shy of. Helena was also great. Headstrong, assured, and witty; it was fun to read the conversations between her and others.

I enjoyed Stephanie Laurens, and her different point-of-views. The plot was fun to read, and I loved that there wasn't really a villain in the end,
just bored powerful men
. She did a great job of swapping from scene-to-scene, and making the other characters interesting too.

I honestly couldn't wait to read this when I heard there was a Cynster prequel that had Sebastian and Helena's romance! It was honestly just what I wanted - suitably bananas as all Cynsters - are including a rescue meeting and a sword fight! Helena is feisty and I loved seeing her and Theresa Obaldstone as younger women. She also knows her worth and I love it when a heroine sticks to her guns. Sebastian is like Devil - emotionally constipated but also very much head over heels the second he meets his match. It was a fun read and while not a favorite of the series fun to see Ms. Laurens drop hints about things that happen later in the books!
