Thank god it's over.
Don't know if I'm willing to read the final book knowing how awful this ghostwriter is.
V. C. Andrews, you left us too soon :(

“Gates of Paradise” (Casteel #4) by V.C. Andrews

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book in the Casteel series follows Heaven’s daughter, Annie, after her parents are killed in a car crash. When she wakes, she learns she is paralyzed and must recover at the mysterious Tony Tatterton’s home at Farthinggale Manor. The man who has a history of incest and pedophilia. By the end, Annie learns more secrets her family has been hiding, making for another eerie, dark chunk of the Casteel family trauma storyline.

“My heart fluttered like the wings of a confused canary unsure whether it should enter the golden cage. Truly it would be taken care of, pampered, fed, loved; but it also knew that once it entered the cage, the tiny door would be closed and it would look at the world forever through those golden bars.”

“I fell asleep counting questions instead of sheep.”

Perhaps picking a book from the middle of a series was not a smart place to begin - however it was in my TBR and so I grabbed it. I do not feel I really needed to read the others, but it may have helped a little. Andrews has a certain style of writing that keeps me intrigued while reading, but later I recall very little of the book. (Except for the Flowers in the Attic series). I enjoyed it while reading, but fairly forgettable.
