Technically, these are all well-written short stories. However, the plots were nothing but dull imitations of life. I got nothing out of this and was bored out of my wits.

I love a good short story, and Alice Munro delivers a great collection of them here. Her storytelling style is dreamy and distant; the stories climb into your mind and begin to feel like a forgotten dream or memory of your own.

These stories were very melancholy and sort of bittersweet but I enjoyed them - the characters seem to be experiencing their lives from a distance, without much say in what happens to them or where they end up. It's sort of a strange feeling to read stories from that perspective, but not bad.
