I've really liked all of the books in these series. They all hover in 4.5 stars range, but this one gets boosted to 5 because of the audio interview at the end. Learning about how the person who reads the boy books in this series is one of the author's best friends and was more than a bit like Sunny as a kid, somehow just made it a little more magical. The story ends also up being about repairing the father/son relationship and I'm a sucker for books where guys learn to share their feelings, especially since in this one it's the parent who has to do most of the learning.

Sunny is represented with such a unique “voice”. This 3rd installment in the Track series packs even more punch than the first two. The novel, as a whole, effectively captures the importance of connecting with those you love while trying to carve your own unique place in the world. A heartfelt story through and through...I thought it was wonderful.

I do not like track or running but this book is so much more than a sports book. It’s about living and I love life. Read it.

My least favorite of the Track series so far. I know many readers will resonate with Sunny and his unique voice, but I simply didn't - I found the playing with sound and repetition a little tiresome, and didn't connect with his rambling and energetic style.

Best advice I can give: Read as many of Jason Reynolds’ books as you can, no matter your age. For starters.
Then go back and listen to them in audiobook format. Guy Lockard delivered a *performance* on this one. The boom-baps and whoosh whoosh aahs that danced as letters on the page jumped up to my ears as Music. My own inner-brain reading voice cannot compare.
I alternated, switching between print and audio as my reading opportunities arose (many times going back to listen to the parts I’d just read) and OOH am I glad I did! The diary-entry style of writing was tailor made to be read aloud in Sunny’s voice.
