This book was an unexpected delight. I didn't realize that it was such a classic when I first found it in an op shop. As an adult, I found myself laughing at the ridiculous situations and having to share them with my husband as they came up. This is a book I hope to read to my children some day so it can bring them the joy it brought me.

I enjoyed reading this as a followup to Five Children and It. The author writes well and I thought it was amusing although I'm quite sure I didn't read it the way children might. The book was written in 1904 and so there are some issues or problems with it. Attitudes towards servants and "boys don't do this and girls do that" sort of thing. The most egregious although I don't believe it was intended to be mean-spirited was the many references to "copper colored savages." This is definitely worth discussing with any child who reads the book. I agree with the reviewers who gave it few stars and pointed out the flaws. Not all books age well. I found it amusing and worth reading. It's interesting to get a look into another world and time.

One of those delightful tales about all the fantastical scrapes children can get into without really meaning to - doubly complicated since there's magic involved! Very clever and charming.

The self-involvement of the children and their disregard for others beyond their family makes them quite unlikeable. Some of their misadventures are funny and interesting but others drag on.

Although I preferred the prequel to this, I did enjoy the beginning and the end of this story. I felt it just got a bit ‘meh’ and hard to understand in the middle (mainly the cook and the burglars speech).
