I still miss L, but Near and Mello are really intelligent (obviously lol), and have drastically differing personalities, so it does manage to keep the story exciting.

The light character is getting a little bit stupid here.
Now that he is acting as both L and Kirs, he is more hasty, less confident in his reasoning, his humanity is decreasing, if I have to summarize it, I will say he is getting drunk into the power of the notebook, he is depending on the notebook more than ever, he is getting darker the more pages we turn.
L death in the previous book was alone a change in the events that gonna happen it turned 360 degrees, without a doubt L and Light are at the same level in thinking each one is so sharp, but now that L is out, Light as Kira got confident in his self and that affected his movements and reasoning

First volume that I give lower than 5 stars, but Things are different without “you-know-who”
It took me a while longer to finish this volume because I got busy, but in the last third it picked up the action and suspense again.

I'm starting to see why this series is so beloved. It is picking up a lot more, obviously since there are only a couple of volumes left, but it's fun to see all the action a payoff.
