I had picked up the second book from a used bookstore and figured out there was likely a book or two before with 30 pages, so I got the digital copy since the second seemed like a promising and fun read but I wanted to start from the start. It did not disappoint. It was a fun romp, interesting world building, and characters I enjoyed. I feel like the series hovers between urban fantasy and paranormal romance, so if you're a fan of either, you might like this, though there is some mild to moderate gore/body horror, if that's a trigger.
Moderate: Addiction, Body horror, Drug abuse, Gore, and Blood

Pros:
I like the variety of supernatural creatures and their interactions amongst each other
The mystery and stakes of the plot interested me and once I was hook it kept me
Cons:
The author writes like she HATES people with substance abuse issues (drugs, alcohol). They are constantly objects of the main character's scorn, butts of jokes, and victims of meaningless violence. It happens so often and so much (will not spoil) that it distracts from the story and makes me (someone with these issues) feel pretty crappy about myself.
This reads like the author doesn't have much writing or even READING experience. it's like she read one or two medical dramas or perhaps watched some Grey's Anatomy and thought "Hey I could do that!"
