I wish this didn't feel so unfinished. It was still beautiful, though and it conjures up such sublime respect for nature, its power and its beauty.

Ugh, my heart. I wish Richard Wagamese had had a chance to finish this book. I was waiting for the climax and then became concerned when I saw the dwindling pages 💞

Wow. This is one of the most incredible books I’ve read in a long time. I need to say that I wanted to write a spoiler but I will refrain because I need everyone to know how much I loved this book.
This book is unfinished- Richard Wagamese passes before he was able to complete a draft of Starlight, and so the last few pages are a summary of how Wagamese intended to finish the book as he had described to close friends and family. The book is also very lightly edited, and this makes it all the more special I think.
The abrupt ending feels very natural. In life, things don’t always get wrapped up the way we want them to. In this story, the same is true. We don’t necessarily find out how Emmy and Frank’s story ends, but this seems to make sense in some way. We saw a glimpse into what their future held, and now it becomes their private story, one that they no longer invite others to see. It’s just for them.
I say this a lot but I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. I will 100% be on my way to reading literally everything else Wagamese has ever read. Boy is it any wonder why Lee Miracle wanted to write a book about his incredible life.

Quite profound and hopeful. Wagamese has the articulate eloquence of Hemingway and aptures the healing power of nature and relationship to the land like few others.

In hindsight, this unfinished book was probably not the best Wagamese book to start with. Regardless, it was so good. The characters were so sweet. I'm disappointed that the ending didn't get written before his death. I plan on reading some of his other books in the future.

Richard Wagamese is one of my favourite writers. I knew he didn’t finished this book before died and I wasn’t sure how the publishers were going to handle that. It was done beautifully. I SO wish I could have had more of this story but it was also rather beautiful in its incomplete state. I loved this.
