I don't know if I've ever read a reference book cover to cover before, but Chicago made it easy, fascinating, and fun. I'm not sure it's totally necessary to read it that way, but I think it's well worth it. Totally absorbing.
I was stalled for a few years in the second Documentation section but finally decided to finish the thing.
Beautifully organized, carefully written, and authoritative by virtue of thoughtfulness.

This is another MUST-HAVE that should be on every serious writer's book shelf.

I've never had any need professionally or academically for this reference work, but I took it on board years ago as my own personal style guide. I've never left it and am happy with that decision.

An essential reference for people who work with words. My love and allegiance for Chicago grows stronger by the day, particularly now that I work in a place with no house style.

It's useful if you have an editor/company that insists that you use it. otherwise it's nothing special.
