Very interesting to read the novelization of the movie as it gives more background into the characters emotions. There are also some deleted scenes that didn’t make it into the movie that I found very interesting.

“I'd rather kiss a wookie!”

The war between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire continues in the Empire Strikes Back. The Rebel Alliance has set a secret base on the planet Hoth, but soon they were forced to flee, scattering in all directions. Luke going to the Dagobah system to become a Jedi, but he soon finds out it's not that easy. Han and Leia are being forced to move to a different planet, trying to outrun Darth Vader's minions. When Han and Leia are held captive, Luke has to come to rescue them.

Hadn't had time to post a review because I was in London for a couple of days. I liked this book! I thought it was even better than the movie, because we got to know so much more. We even got to know how Han thought about Leia. I really liked that. The writing style is nice, easy and fast to read. I liked the details. How Luke is so full of energy and so ready to take on the Dark Lord, but when he finds out about Darth Vader being his father, he gives up. Luke is unprepared and hasn't had that much training like his father. The battle between the two of them could have been his death. Luke learns and grows and is willing to do all that, just to save the galaxy from the Empire.

Well written and very nice to read!

First of all, you have to love the author's last name.

Second, he handled the growing attraction between Leia and Han well.

Third, in light of the prequels, Luke's personal conflict of training vs. saving his friends takes on new significance: ". . .how could he fear these abstract things (vulnerability, being lost on the path to evil) when Han and Leia were real and were suffering? How could he permit himself to fear possible danger to himself when his friends were presently in real danger of death?" Apparently, he hasn't paid much attention to Leia in the past three years. He's forgotten that he isn't the only one to have lost family and friends in the war, and that there are others who continue to do what must be done.

But it does show that the son faces the same temptations as the father, but triumphs.
