This one changed up the format of the storytelling some with some time jumps/flashback stype stuff and I was here for it.
Also please for the love of god I need more Aeduan/Iseult.

The Author must not like us readers as well as the publisher because this book was too long and a hot mess. I honestly can't tell you what happened and why most of the stuff is going on. I thought to give this series another chance big mistake.

Evil is not the enemy, for without it, there can be no good. Chaos, however, is unstoppable.
This is a tough one to rate. At this point I feel such a deep attachment to these characters, that I am happy to read pretty much anything about them and this cruel, yet beautiful, world. I especially loved that Vivia and Vaness had a little more page-time in this book, but I really did miss getting to see Merik and his little solo adventures. The story keeps getting more and more complex; I simply can't wait for the next installment (there is still a whole year to go)!
The reason that this book, despite its intricate and expansive world-building, is getting a lower rating than the previous books is because the timeline Dennard decided to employ this time around was to the story's detriment in y opinion - I was so lost at the start of the book and I did manage to find my footing until at least half-way through and after that I felt like I already missed so much of the plotline. I had to start it all over again once I finished and that has left the order of events and when they were revealed really jumbled up in my head. I cannot stress enough how much I am finding myself loving this series, this was simply a little bit of a let-down for me.
Nevertheless, I will be rereading at least some of these books before the fifth and final book comes out in April 2025. Hopefully that will bring the rating of this penultimate book higher!

This gave me a little more hope to continue with the series but…..it’s still as confusing as hell. I’m still not completely sure of the motives of some of the characters and I didn’t like some of them as much as in previous books. I am intrigued to see where it goes but it’s about time that all of the puzzle pieces come together to make a clearer plot.

This book is one of the best books that I have ever read. Alternating between flashbacks and six points of view, Witchshadow is the continuation of the Witchlands Saga.
After their reunion at the end of Bloodwitch, Safi and Iseult find themselves once again separated. Their plans have all come crashing down around them and they must trust dubious allies to get them where they need to go in order to fix everything.
Because this is Iseult’s book, her narrative frames everything. We see her go from someone who hides in the shadows and fights against the truth of her powers to someone who embraces all aspects of herself and her history.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
5/5 stars for this epic continuation.

This book was a fun time, it was a little confusing at time, but it might be because I haven't read the other books in years. I like that each character got an equal amount of screen time, and that my main man Aeduan and the baddest ass in town Iseult det Midenzi FINALLY kissed. It only took 5 books!! We better get more of them in the next book or I'm going to be upset.

The first part of this book is confusing (intentionally so) and quite bleak, but the second half more than makes up for the initial confusion and sorrow. To say I was happy with how this book concluded is an understatement, and I highly recommend plowing through the bleak passages. I absolutely loved how much we did learn about the Paladins by the end of the book, compared to the dribs and drabs from other books, and I also absolutely loved the overarching message of redemption. While Bloodwitch was also focused on redemption, Witchshadow tackles the subject more deeply, with many touching moments- .
Bloodwitch is still my favorite overall Witchlands novel, but the second half of Witchshadow is easily on par with it. Highly recommended!
