A solid book that sometimes overwhelms with the number of individuals covered. The longer sections on Gimblett and Trott are wonderful though, and earn it the extra star.

It's sad to read this in 2016 knowing that the author of the introduction, the brilliant cricket writer (and pretty good cricketer) Peter Roebuck, took his own life a couple of years ago. His insights into his own psychological state during tough times in the 1980s, and his conclusions about carrying on, are all the more poignant for his passing.

An updated version of this book called "Silence of the Heart: Cricket Suicides" was published in 2001 and I believe further updated more recently.
