These characters are the worst and the adults are especially awful.
This isn't something I can personally recommend, even for enemies-to-lovers fans.
I DNFed it at 60% and honestly I'm still rating it because I read enough of the book and I deserve that.

This was a cute book to read! I loved how the story took place in Alabama.

“Are we being crazy? Is this impractical?”
“Who cares? Now is the time to fail spectacularly. We have our whole lives ahead of us to try again and again.”
Kasie West’s books are all short and sweet reads and Maybe This Time was no exception. It was written in a unique manner, sectioned off by the nine events that the main characters Sophie and Andrew attend over the span of a year. This means that quite a bit of time passes between some of their interactions which I found to be very interesting.
At the start of every section there’s a short and hilarious blurb about the flower chosen for the event of that section, written by Sophie for the flower shop that she works at. I really liked this! Many authors use quotes (which I also love!) but this felt specialized to this book which made it extra special.
”Carnation: A flower with a potent fragrance and distinct shape, mostly known for being the choice of cheapskates. Bring someone a carnation and you may as well have plucked a dandelion out of a crack in the sidewalk. But carnations don’t mind their reputation. They are both hardy and long-lasting. Stubborn little flowers. Long live the carnation!”
I really enjoyed the character development in this book. Contemporary standalones tend to be quick and therefore not have a lot of good character arcs, which is unfortunate because I love when characters grow and discover who they are. Kasie West managed to include big changes in Sophie over the year when the story took place and as readers we get to follow her over that journey!
Overall: Another fun read by Kasie West!

3.5 stelle!

I read this book ages ago and I've been meaning to review it for the longest time! This was pretty standard for Kasie West and it was a fun summer read. I really liked the premise and it was a bit of a change as we follow Sophie through an entire year of working at the florist's and hence get to know her character quite well. It was a nice touch that the chapters went by which event Sophie was organizing rather than simply chapter numbers, along with the funny blurbs about the flowers being used for the event.
Sophie and Andrew were really cute, and while I'm usually a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope, I felt that it wasn't too well executed in this case. Though this is a romance centered book, it felt like they spent way too much time hating each other, and when that finally changed, the book was pretty much over.
Kasie West's novels have long been a go-to for me when I need something lighthearted or feel-good. However, I think I'm at a point where I've well and truly outgrown her novels. I still find them entertaining, but I'm no longer able to really connect with the story or characters, and so it's unlikely I will continue picking up her novels. For those whom this genre appeals to though, this book, along with all her other novels are perfect summer reads and I would definitely recommend it!

As per usual, this was super cute and exactly the kind of book I needed between classics and fantasies.
My only issue is that everyone in Sophie's life acts like a complete dick at least once, and most of the time, she was blamed for it? Yall, I sympathised with her so hard.

Ending:
At the New Years Eve party Andrew and Sophie end up getting together and talking about the future. Andrew will go to school in New York and wait 5 months for Sophie to go college there. She has become more confident about her work and has found her unique style - flowers!
Micah doesn't end up kissing Lance (the guy she works with and is unaware they are amazing for each other) but there is still hope for them.
Side note - Sophie comes to the realisation her mom isn't all that bad and actually she's taken the wrong side all these years; it isn't her moms fault her dad left her and made her a struggling single parent.
