i struggled through this book, but i do actually think it's quite good and worth the read. it especially picks up in the 2nd half, when more seems to be going on and you're more connected with the characters - the pacing also gets more thriller-y near the end which i appreciated. it's a really interesting subject matter and fairly well executed. another win for swedish literature!

I started listening to the audiobook which was a lovely way to get the sound of the Sámi words in my head, but then I wanted to read faster so I switched to the hard copy. This is a fascinating setting and community I knew next to nothing about. There’s so much pain and joy for the characters trying to navigate their endangered way of life. It’s also an interesting and infuriating look at a very different flavor of racism and police complicity than I’m used to thinking about.
